About Renegade Opera
Renegade Opera’s mission is to create thought-provoking and intimate musical performances that engage audiences and multifaceted artists, reclaim narrative power for the traditionally underrepresented, and champion institutional reform in opera. Since 2020, our whimsical and imaginative productions have shared opera with thousands of people in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. As we increase our reach and expand our production calendar, we are seeking a part-time Managing Director ready to build the future of opera with us.
Role Overview
Renegade Opera is seeking a part-time Managing Director to manage our projects and coordinate operations as we grow our organization. This role is designed for a detail-oriented collaborator to shine, supporting the RO Core team to focus on artistry and strategic development as we grow RO for the future.
The Managing Director will report to ROs Board of Directors and work closely with RO’s team of volunteers and the public, so an ethos of patience and open communication are ideal. This is a contract role requiring 5–10 hours per week over a one-year commitment. The ideal candidate brings strong project management skills and is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment. No prior experience in opera or the performing arts is required.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Build and maintain timelines, task tracking systems, and project documentation across all projects and productions of Renegade Opera
Collaborate on production strategy, budgets, and artist coordination logistics
Coordinate with external vendors to facilitate the execution of events and projects
Attend weekly Admin Meetings, Production Meetings as scheduled, and RO productions/events to facilitate successful execution
Artist Management
Serve as primary point of contact for artists, including answering questions and fulfilling requests
Draft, distribute, and track artist contracts, signed agreements, and all artist correspondence
Strategic Development and Outreach
Manage donor database (Givebutter), including data entry, record maintenance, and reporting for stewardship tracking
Draft and distribute gift receipts and acknowledgment letters
Support grant application processes (including generation, research, and writing) and research funding opportunities alongside the Core Team
Develop, execute, and track targeted advertising strategies to grow audience awareness across social media and email marketing channels
Qualifications & Skills
Required
Demonstrated experience in project management — tracking tasks, timelines, and team follow-up
Strong spoken and written communication skills — clear, professional, and responsive
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams
A self-starter, comfortable working independently in a small, lean team environment
Preferred / Nice to Have
Experience with donor management or CRM software (Givebutter or similar platforms)
Experience with digital advertising (Mailchimp, Meta Ads, Google Ads, and Canva)
Background in event or production coordination
Familiarity with arts, music, or nonprofit organizations (no opera expertise required)
Compensation & Terms
1-year contract commitment, with potential for renewal
$25 per hour, paid monthly
5–10 hours per week, flexible scheduling
While much of the role is remote-friendly; in-person attendance at productions and events is desired

As part of our mission, Renegade Opera prioritizes local Portland artists when casting projects. No stipends for travel or lodging are available at this time for out of town singers. All are welcome to audition.
